Launch of the Second Set of AfriAlliance Action Groups

After a competitive call AfriAlliance has selected the 2nd set of 5 Action Groups that are currently launching their activities. Following the African and European wide call to create an Action Group, the top 5 Action Groups were chosen. These Action Groups will address specific, demand-driven issues with innovative approaches and knowledge co-creation in the field of water and climate. They consist of diversified sets of participants, including both European and African members in each group. With Action Group leaders from Egypt, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa, these Action Groups are varied, covering the different regions of the African Continent.
AfriAlliance is therefore proud to launch the following second set of 5 Action Groups:
- Mara Water and Wetland Watch
- Lead: WinRock (Kenya)
- Ubuntu Action Group – Scaling and resourcing of Citizen Based Water Quality Monitoring (CBWQM)
- Lead: Ground Truth (South Africa)
- The African Alliance for Water Stewardship
- Lead: Water Witness International (UK)
- Planning for Drought in Semi-Arid Africa
- Lead: Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies (Ghana)
- Tailor-Made Socio Economic Approaches for Integrated Water Management in Rural to Urban Driven Mutations (SoWat)
- Lead: City of Scientific Research and Technology Applications (SRTA-City, Egypt)
The Action Groups were formed in a bottom-up and demand driven fashion and were free to propose relevant activities in one of the following main themes:
Main Themes
1) Human development and capacity development needs in water and climate actions
2) Institutional capacity development needs in water and climate actions
3) Rural and Agriculture settings
4) Urban and industrial settings
5) Coastal areas
6) Transversal issues
Three of the five Action Groups have chosen to work on the human development and capacity development needs in water and climate actions theme while the remaining two action groups will focus their attention on Institutional capacity development needs in water and climate actions and Rural and Agriculture settings.
The launch of this set of 5 Action Groups brings the total number of AfriAlliance Action Groups to 10. The activities of the 10 AfriAlliance Action Groups are taking place across Africa incorporating African and European stakeholders that are working together on water and climate related concerns.
