Call for case studies – share your solutions on protected areas and gender/cities/water by 23 October!

Are you a solution provider?

IUCN is currently looking for conservation success stories, which demonstrate how protected areas contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals on Gender equality (SDG5), Clean water and sanitation (SDG6) and/or Sustainable cities and communities (SDG11).

Why contribute?
All eligible cases will be included in a research project and an IUCN publication on the contributions of protected areas to multiple dimensions of sustainable development.
Beyond that, all cases will be published on the PANORAMA web platform and promoted further:

• Exposure and visibility for your work: The platform receives up to 500 visitors per day from virtually all countries in the world. Newly published solutions appear on the homepage. Solutions are being further promoted e.g. through IUCN social media channels, newsletters and publications.
• Leverage: Making your knowledge available allows other conservation practitioners to replicate your solution’s elements of success in their own work.
• Network: Become part of the PANORAMA community of users by engaging in exchange on the platform and being invited to present your solution at events, webinars or other occasions.
• Self-learning: Going through a guided process of structuring your knowledge can help you better understand "what worked why" - and learn from it.

What is PANORAMA?
PANORAMA is a global multi-actor partnership initiative, which identifies and promotes applied, replicable “solutions”. It enables their wider application through offering cross-sectoral exchange opportunities. These exchange opportunities facilitate learning from successful practice in biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.

What is a solution?

In the sense of PANORAMA, a solution is a tool, method, process or approach that works and can inspire action. It can be a project, certain aspects of a project, or a longer-term initiative. Solutions have yielded positive impacts on nature conservation and sustainable human development in an integrated manner, and can potentially be applied elsewhere. The case study description focuses on a solution’s success factors and impacts.

How to contribute?

Do you have a solution relating to protected areas and gender;  water; and/or cities?
Case studies should be submitted on the PANORAMA web platform (ideally as “Full Solutions” rather than “Snapshot Solutions”; make sure to select the "Protected Areas" portal on the 1st page of the entry form).

• A first draft needs to be received by Wednesday, 23 October.
• Case studies will then be reviewed, and if revisions are needed, an updated draft should be submitted by 31 October.
• All eligible solutions will be published on the platform in early November.
• Results of the research project will become available in late 2019.
• The IUCN publication will be launched in mid-2020.
