AfriAlliance Conference Session: Sustainable WaSH in the age of climate change

This session included valuable contributions from AfWa, Ps-Eau and the Flowered project.
Mr Usher, Executive Director of the African Water Association, gave a keynote speech about the definition, effects and consequences of climate change in the African water sector and the advocacy for African government to encourage research on climate change adaptation. His presentation addressed the impacts of climate change in the water sector and financing sources for mitigation of climate change impacts. Unfortunately, there are limited capacities to access climate change funds.
Christophe Le Jallé of Ps-Eau presented the effects of climate change on WASH services delivering, based on West Africa case studies and grouped them in three main areas: Impacts on infrastructures, impacts on water supply services and impacts on sanitation. Prof. Giorgio Ghiglieri reported on a EC H2020 project addressing solution for de-FLuoridation of water along the East African Rift valley (FLOWERED project).
The audience raised questions on a variety of issues, such as the affordability of technological solutions for rural areas population, and data management.
